Remote access in MaxRMM is powered by RustDesk — an open-source, high-performance remote desktop protocol that works where RDP can't. Windows Home editions, locked-down corporate networks, devices behind strict firewalls: RustDesk handles all of it without requiring port forwarding or network changes on the client side.
Every session is unattended — your tech can connect without an end user needing to click anything. That's critical for after-hours maintenance, server work, and emergency response. The session opens directly from the agent detail page, so there's no credential lookup or separate app to manage.
For MSPs with compliance requirements, MaxRMM supports a self-hosted relay so your remote session traffic never touches our infrastructure. Every session is logged in the audit trail: who connected, to which device, when, and for how long.
